Off Site (Page) Search Engine Optimization

By now website owners and internet marketers already know the importance of search engine optimization. No need of going through the layman definitions over and over again. It is also a well-known fact that asides from traffic coming from social media and link building, majority of traffic for most websites come from search engine result pages (SERPs), therefore, there is no question on the importance of SEO, both on page and off page. After your website goes live on the internet, it is available for all and sundry; but how do you drive site visitors to your site? How do you increase site traffic? All other SEO efforts you make to get your site ranked high in search engines, without altering your website or any of its pages, are called off page search engine optimization.

Off page SEO usually requires patience, perseverance and dedication, and if you try to maneuver your way and cheat search engines, it may work for you for a while, but you’ll soon get sandboxed by most search engines, especially Google. Off page SEO is directly related to link popularity. In other words, your website is relevant in the eyes of search engines if there are several websites having one way links that lead to your site. This may sound easy, but it is easier said than done. You cannot just wake up one day and start exchanging links with site owners, once search engines detect that most of your links are reciprocal and not organic, trustworthy one way links, they quickly abandon your site and move on to other serious organic links.

  • A good way of performing off page SEO and increasing your link popularity is through forums. Find free to join forums that are relevant to your niche or site, and make significant and sensible contributions to the forum topics and threads. Often times, there’s always a small signature box that allows you to fill your name and website before contributing to the threads, which means on every comment or contribution you make, there’s a page linking back to your website.
  • There are also content marketing and article marketing directories that require you to submit decent, relevant articles to their sites, while you provide author information and a link to your site. These article submission directories usually have different rules, but the most important is that they want fresh, well researched articles that reflect your expertise and also benefit others.
  • Also, it is important to make use of anchor texts and make sure you format your keywords into active links. Change the anchor texts you use from time to time so that search engines will come to recognize them as organic.

Lastly, there are no shortcuts or quick scam schemes to SEO, if you’re not an expert, it is better to employ a SEO expert to perform both on page and off page SEO for your site, in order to achieve the best results.
